mousesports defeat Cloud9 to book BLAST Premier Fall Finals spot
The 'Colossus' began both maps brightly but their light went out quickly.
MOUZ are through to the BLAST Premier Fall Finals following a 2-0 victory over Cloud9 in the Showdown semi-finals. Riding the wave of optimism after Saturday's hard-fought victory over Complexity on Saturday, Alex "ALEX" McMeekin's troops were able to take the game to their opponents during the early stages of both maps, but they couldn't keep that intensity for long.
MOUZ, who had looked impressive against GODSENT and HEROIC earlier in the bracket, kept their wits about them to seal a near-flawless tournament run and book a spot in the Fall Final, joining the likes of Vitality, Natus Vincere and G2.
"Replacing one player can change a lot since we lost our star AWPer, woxic is one of the best AWPers in the world," David "frozen" Čerňanský said after the match when asked about the team's current form. "It's hard to replace woxic, but I think we are doing very well at the moment and I think we haven't reached our peak."

Cloud9 came out all guns blazing, storming to a 5-0 lead on the T side of Vertigo, their own map pick. MOUZ looked helpless during those initial stages, but they tightened up and gradually took the upper hand, with Finn "karrigan" Andersen and Robin "ropz" Kool combining for 30 frags to spearhead the team's comeback as they ended the half up by three.
MOUZ carried that momentum into the second half and took the pistol round in a 5v5 post-plant scenario thanks to three quick kills from Aurimas "Bymas" Pipiras. Cloud9 still attempted a response after buying up, but one round was all that they could muster as karrigan's troops refused to take their foot off the pedal and quickly put the game away.
In something of a carbon copy of Vertigo, Inferno began with another flying start from Cloud9, who raced to an 8-1 lead on the CT side with Ricky "floppy" Kemery topping the scoreboard with 15 frags. Things were starting to look dire for MOUZ, but then frozen put the team back on the board with two crisp headshots. That was exactly the sort of wake-up call that the team needed to turn the game around as they embarked on a dominant run to bring the deficit to a minimum before the side swap.
ALEX set Cloud9 up for success in the second half pistol with a trio of frags, with the team following that up with the next two rounds to bring the scoreline to 11-7. Their lead was not to last, however, as MOUZ set up a tight and compact defense once they had money in the bank and pulled off a comeback thanks to a series of multi-kills by Bymas on the B site.
